Aluminum Die Casting vs Injection Molding: Which Fits Your Part?

When sourcing a metal or plastic component from an overseas manufacturer, one of the first decisions is the production process. Two of the most common are aluminum die casting and plastic injection molding—and although both use reusable molds and high-pressure filling, they serve very different parts.

Material and strength
Die casting forces molten aluminum (or zinc, magnesium) into a steel mold under high pressure, producing strong, heat-resistant, conductive metal parts. Injection molding does the same with thermoplastic polymers, yielding lighter, often cheaper, non-conductive parts. If your part must dissipate heat, carry load, or survive under the hood of a vehicle, die casting wins.
Volume, tolerance and cost
Both favor high volumes. Die casting tooling is more expensive but delivers tighter dimensional stability in metal; injection molding tooling is cheaper for plastic and cycles faster. For a metal enclosure that must be EMI-shielded or structurally load-bearing, aluminum die casting is usually the right call.
When to combine both
Many products need both: a die-cast aluminum chassis with injection-molded plastic covers. A supplier that offers both die casting and injection molding under one roof—like Hengyongxin, operating 18 injection machines (80T–400T) alongside 300T–1300T die-casting presses—simplifies sourcing and reduces logistics.
